In today's world where being overweight is becoming a commonplace condition; this situation is now affecting children of pre-school age and is a worrying aspect. For some, the decision is simple and they just write out a check for the surgery but others prefer the harder approach of actually getting fit and controlling their diet. Weight reduction should be approached as a long term proposition especially when you consider it takes considerable time to become overweight so the use of weight loss drugs should be used with caution.

These drugs usually work buy telling the brain it's no longer hungry, stimulating metabolism to aid the shedding of excess fat. The problem arose when it was found that one of the side effects from this type of drug was the increased risk of heart valve disease and of course the drug was quickly withdrawn from use. Since then, newer drugs have been developed and doctors continue to prescribe them although they are still awaiting FDA certification.

The chances are that if you asked enough people, someone will say they have used them and been happy with the results. The idea that a simple drug can change your body shape without the need to change the diet or sacrificing those pleasures in life can be very tempting. As a consequence, drug companies spend millions of dollars in research on weight loss drugs while consumers spend even more buying the pills.

Even with all the testing and new techniques available for manufacturers, many side effects like nausea and diarrhea still exist with the new generation of weight control pills which, incidentally, can still be purchased over the counter. You must check the packet carefully before you decide to use them because some of the other side effects can be even more harmful, like the possibility of a heart attack or even a stroke, with hallucinations, tremors, breathing problems and convulsions all recorded as side effects for users of these drugs.

The side effects vary depending on the lifestyle and health of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor first before buying them; it should be noted that if one stops using the drugs, the side effects will not necessarily cease. Problems like irritability, tiredness, vomiting, stomach pains and sleep problems are all common effects reported when someone stops taking these weight control pills.

Generally from the reports it would seem that the effectiveness of weight loss drugs is improved if they are combined with a regular exercise program and a low calorie diet. A diet that is full of foods such as oats, rice, cereals, potatoes, vegetables and fruits contain a good supply of vitamins, minerals and essential fiber.

Of course this should always be combined with a good exercise routine which will use up excess calories and provide a good all round fitness workout. The best exercise plans should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises as this helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase a person's metabolism and assist with weight loss.

Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is on of the most difficult task we will had to deal with in life. I’ve lost weight in the past ,and I am currently trying to lose some.

Today, I will share with you some strategies that I used to lose weight.

How To Lose Weight :

1.Set Goals:

The first step I implemented was to mentally decided that I wanted to loose weight. I set a goal of losing X number of weight by X date. Writing down my goals helped me stay motivated and on track.

2.Start Small:

I decided to make small change that helped me lose weight. I drank less soda and more water. Instead of driving five block to the grocery store,I walked. Presently, I rarely drink soda.

3.Eat Breakfast:

I used to skip breakfast because I wanted to lose weight. I ended up eating a larger lunch and sometimes over ate. Ironically, research has shown that skipping breakfast could lead to weight gain.

4.Family weight loss:

Exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a family affair. My wife and I try to take regular walks. When she sees me eating or drinking something unhealthy she reminded me of my diet. As parent we must take steps to protect our health as well as the health of our family members.

5.Do as I say,not As I do:

Our children follow our lifestyle. If we have an unhealthy lifestyle, then our children tend to have unhealthy lifestyle. They eat and drink the some food we consume. Research has shown that overweight parents tend to have overweight children. Childhood obesity is a devastating problem worldwide. We can’t tell our children not to consume certain foods ,and we consume the same foods. For example, we might tell our children that potatoes chips are unhealthy ,but we end up eating chips ourselves. Parents are the best and foremost examples for children.

Improving our health today could lead to a better tomorrow. Our children will need in 20 years as much as they need us today.
