How Does Your Metabolism Rate Work?
What is Metabolism?
Metabolism takes place inside the human body and occurs every minute of every day. It is the process of taking food and converting that food into energy. How fast this process takes place is your metabolism rate. People with high metabolism rate, have no problem with gaining weight, while people with slow metabolism rate do have a problem with weight gain. What needs to happen is, the people with the slow metabolism rate need to find a way to increase metabolism naturally and effectively.
The foods we eat are broken down into various components which then enter the bloodstream to provide us with energy. The rate at which the foods are broken down, will determine whether the food is used as energy or stored as fat. You don't want high levels of fat in your bloodstream. This can lead to serious health problems and even lead to death.
How to increase you metabolism rate
A great way to increase your metabolism rate naturally is by exercise. Muscle burns more energy than fat. The funny thing is your metabolism rate will still remain elevated even after the exercise is done.
Genetic makeup effects metabolism rate. Some of the conditions that can effect metabolism rate are over-active or under-active thyroid.
How can you raise your metabolism?
Eat healthy and exercise are two fantastic ways to increase your metabolism rate naturally and effectively. 30 minutes a day for 4 or 5 days a week is a good way to keep a healthy metabolism rate. Examples of the exercises needed are:
Aerobic exercise
Walking
Jogging
Dancing
Riding a bike
As mentioned earlier, studies show that the metabolism rate will remain elevated for several hours after you have completed your exercise program. You can add lifting weights which will increase muscle mass. Muscle mass will increase your metabolism rate while being active or at rest.
Another important factor to a healthy life is controlling your weight. Make sure you are eating a variety of foods to get the right balance of nutrients and vitamins. You can experiment with your calorie intake. Watch what your calorie intake is without increasing your weight. While you increase your amount of activity, this will allow you to eat more. Inactivity will result in stored body fat which is what we don't want.
There are people who have a high metabolism rate and feel that they need to gain some weight. To gain weight to just look better is not a good idea. If you are one of the lucky people who have a high metabolism rate, try to exercise and put on muscle mass for weight gain. You don't want to just eat and gain fat. In fact muscle weights more than fat and is much healthier for you than storing fats in your body.
