To understand how metabolism really works is like this.  You eat a sandwich or have a soda; the body has to work hard to process the food you ate.  Your body digests the food, it then becomes fuel or energy your body needs.  This is what is called metabolism.

In medical terms, metabolism is composed of several chemical reactions that take place at the cellular level.  When this process happens the body processes the food you just ate into energy the body then uses to think, move, grow and function normally.

Certain proteins control these reactions and each of these reactions of metabolism is used for a specific body function.  The human body regulates the metabolic reactions on that occur daily.  Metabolism is a complicated process and it occurs in all living things.  Metabolism starts when you are born and end immediately when you die.

Metabolism not only occurs in humans it also happens in plants and in animals.  For example, the plants take the suns energy and use it to produce sugar.  When a human or animal eat these plants the process of metabolism occur when the body absorbs these plant sugars and turns that sugar into energy.  The energy is then distributed throughout the bodies cells.  The human body then can either use this energy immediately or store it within body tissues for future use.

Metabolism has a balance of two processes that occur simultaneously.  One stores the energy for tissue development and the other breaks down the sugars to generate energy for the body.  The two metabolic processes are known as anabolism and catabolism.  The human body must balance these procedures to ensure the energy is distributed properly.

Anabolosm is the constructive metabolism. It is the process that stores the energy to build tissue.  It helps in developing new body cells, maintaining tissues and storing of energy for a later use.

Catabolism is the destructive metabolism.  This is the process that converts nutrients into energy for your body’s daily fuel needs.  What happens is the energy is released into the human body for heat, movement, muscle contraction and other normal body activities.

Metabolism is one of the most complicated processes the body goes through.  Day in and day out the body’s metabolism is working.  For metabolism to work properly the human body needs an active lifestyle.  That way the metabolic processes are in balance.  Metabolism is different in both men and women.  Metabolism influences and determines how your body gains and loses weight.  How your metabolism works has to do with your diet, physical activity, genes and as mentioned earlier if you are a man or woman.

For this reason metabolism varies from one person to the next.  What this all means is the one person loses weight easily and then there are others who have a hard time to lose weight.  Your individual metabolism controls this process.
